Why Your Makeup and Beauty Products Have a Shelf Life
If you are anything like me; your bathroom cabinet is stocked with lotions and potions and make up. Next time you reach for that beauty or make up product at the back of cupboard that you havent use for awhile; think about how long its been there?
Did you know make up and beauty have an expiry date?
Take a moment to check the back of your favorite beauty or make up product. You'll likely notice a small symbol – a triangle containing a number followed by the letter 'M'. The period after opening symbolizes the duration for which a product remains stable and safe to use after its initial unsealing. It's a indicator provided by manufacturers to guide consumers on the optimal usage and lifespan of their products.
So, why does makeup and skincare have an expiry date? Products have an expiry date for preservation (some ingredients deteriorate over time), hygiene and product stability (e.g. texture of the products change and become goopy).
Its a good idea to keep track of what you have opened and when it's time to replace it. Store products properly in cool, dry place away from sunlight to prolong the shelf life. Use up products and throw away any expired products; as they can be not as effective and can pose risks to your skin.
Think about next time before you buy; could you use the smaller size product and finish it in the recommended time frame prior to expiry?

Investing in Yourself: The Power of Personal Styling
Personal styling - a term often associated with the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, the runways of fashion capitals, and the wardrobes of celebrities. However, the reality is far more inclusive and accessible than commonly thought.
As a personal stylist, I have had the privilege of working with everyday individuals who seek to elevate their style, boost their confidence, and embrace their unique identity through fashion.
Contrary to popular belief, personal styling is not just for the rich and famous. My clientele consists of individuals from diverse backgrounds, each with their own story and budget. From busy professionals to stay-at-home parents, and from recent graduates to retirees, personal styling is for anyone who desires to curate a wardrobe that reflects their personality and lifestyle.
So, why do people seek out the expertise of a personal stylist? First and foremost, many of my clients express a sense of discomfort with their current wardrobe or just feel overwhelmed with their wardrobe. Whether it's due to outdated pieces, ill-fitting clothes, or simply feeling uninspired by their style choices, they crave for a transformation. Personal styling offers a fresh perspective and the opportunity to explore new trends, styles, and colours tailored to their preferences.
Moreover, life changes often prompt individuals to reassess their style and image. Whether they've undergone a significant weight loss, navigated through a divorce, or embarked on a new chapter in their lives, such transitions call for a wardrobe that aligns with their newfound identity. As a personal stylist, I offer guidance and support, helping clients embrace their authenticity and regain their confidence through fashion.
The personal styling experience extends beyond mere shopping trips. It's a collaborative journey where I work closely with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and aspirations. Before our one-on-one shopping sessions, I meticulously pre-shop with each client in mind. From scouting the latest trends to curating outfits from an array of stores, I streamline the process to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for my clients.
Reflecting on my own journey into the world of personal styling, I strongly recall the experience of being styled by another stylist during my training and certification at Australian Style Institute. It was enjoyable but also eye-opening, expanding my knowledge of fashion outlets and styling techniques. Experiencing it firsthand allowed me to truly understand what it feels like for a client. As I invite you to embark on your personal styling journey, remember that you deserve to look and feel your best. It's time to invest in yourself and rediscover the joy of dressing up, one outfit at a time. Let's redefine your style, elevate your confidence, and celebrate your unique identity through the art of personal styling.

Monochromatic - A fashion trend to try in 2020
While studying the latest issues of fashion magazines and social media, I discovered a large trend of wearing monochromatic tones.
What is it? Wearing different shades of the one colour from head to toe. With the cooler weather ahead this is a good time to try this trend.
Play with portions and keep bottom half of your outfit firm fitting with looser jacket or jumper on top or vice versa. Here’s the hard part, picking a colour scheme and building your outfit from there.
Looking at my wardrobes I have a lot of pink and green and these shades were easiest for me to pair together so take a look at common colours you buy and build your outfit from there.
This fashion trend is most commonly seen on Meghan Markle, the Kardashians and Gigi Hadid. I have taken style inspiration from Meghan Markle on the forest green monochromatic outfit and here’s my spin.

The best places to shop overseas
If you are travelling overseas and looking for expert shoppers advice on which shopping centres to visit, never fear I have some tips for you. I have personally visited and spent a lot of time and money which I now shall call “research” at the below Shopping Centres. These are my opinions based on my own personal experience.
BangkokMBK - 7 floors of shops and market stalls to test your haggling skills. No matter what you are after you will find it here!! I made the most of my day here when I was last in Bangkok - you can get a suit made, have a thai massage and shop for souvenirs. You may even need to buy a extra bag to take all your purchases home.
Kualu LumpurSuria KLCC - home to Petronas Towers. Has some popular luxury brand stores like Louis Vuitton and Tiffany’s and assortment of well-known labels. If you arrive here early enough you can snap up a ticket to visit the Petronas Tower sky deck and definitely worth a visit for some amazing views of KL.
SingaporeIon Orchard - my favourite shopping centre in Singapore is located on Orchard Road. My friend and I spent the day here shopping and discovering the different shops and levels. This shopping centre features big name labels (Chanel, Louis Vuitton etc) and lots more affordable labels such as H&M, Zara, Uniqlo, Charles and Keith and Sephora.
Hong KongKowloon - as soon as you step off the MTR train into Kowloon's Nathan road district you are in central Kowloon mall shopping area. Shops such as Sasa, H &M, Gap and also in this area is the well know Ladies Markets - which sells a large range of handbags, watches, phone covers etc..
Los AngelesThe Grove - not only is this place great for shopping, it’s also the best place to spot a celebrity on their day off. At the Grove they have a cinemas, cafes and a selection of department stores and stores such as J Crew, Michael Kors, Nordstrom and Topshop.
My other favourite shopping centre is Hollywood and Highland Centre - located on Hollywood Blvd, home to Guess, Lucky Brand Jeans, Victoria's Secret and Sephora. Not to mention when you come home you can name drop and say you have been shopping in Hollywood!
HawaiiI have recently visited Hawaii and I was extremely impressed with Waikele Premium Outlets if you plan on shopping allow all day. The centre features Kate Spade, DKNY, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein and many more. Check out my earlier blog on these outlets. Las VegasPremium Outlets North - This outlet centre features all the well-known brands such as Nike, DKNY, Coach, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren at outlet prices (yah), is well worth a visit if you can if you have a spare day in Vegas and an empty suitcase and some spare cash. London Oxford Street -This famous street is home to London's well known fashion scene. Shops located on Oxfords Street are Top Shop, Next, New Look, Dorothy Perkins, Marks and Spencer and Selfridges. ParisChamps Elysees - the most famous avenue for shopping in Paris. Home to Luxury Brands names such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Abercombie + Finch and Sephora.

Designer Q
- I was lucky enough to attend the Designer Q Red Carpet fashion event last weekend and the concept of the event is promote new brands and designers. Designer Q was a diverse run way that I could buy many pieces and wear which is a hugh deal as I'm someone who clearly isn't a sample size. They featured activewear to cocktail to formal wear. A feel good parade seeing designers with their finished collection and you can see the joy on their faces, which only gives me all feels. My standout favourites
- Kiara Bella she was giving me major south of France summer holidays vibes her collection features floral dresses, swimwear, jumpsuits and they were all delightfully pretty.
- Lennen Collection - a ultra girly "prom" inspired evening wear collection with lots of colour, bows, ruffles and patterns cocktail dresses.

Leopard print in full colour
Ever wanted something leopard but don't love the black/white/cream/brown tones or just want to mix up your usual leopard tones with colour.
Many times in winter we throw on dark colours cause the weather is cold and dull and I'm about show you some leopard in full colour.
Name your favourite colour and I'll show you a rainbow array of leopard.
Top Row1. Myer Piper Dress Mock Wrap Mesh Print - $119.952. Little party dress - Downtime Blue Leopard Knit - $69.953. Marks and Spencer - Animal Print Pleated Midi Skirt - $64
Bottom Row4. Next Frill Maxi Dress - $615. Target - Preview Animal Print Blouse - $306. Sussans - Animal Print Blouse - $99.95
I promise you once you start buying leopard it becomes a uncontrollable addiction and you'll just want to keep adding to your leopard print collection. I'm 110% addicted 😊
When wearing leopard print, I make leopard print the standout piece. I would match it back with a plain colour.
If your not sure if want to dip your toe into leopard print, why not try it via accessories. Think of an all black jumpsuit or a black dress with a pop of leopard print via shoes, bag or a belt.
I get it, leopard print may not be everyones jam, we all have different tastes and that what makes us, US! **All Images owned by the stores
Power up in a power suit
When I say power suit, I still picture a 80s Dynasty power suit with big shoulders. Shake off that image and now think boss babe! Look for a well cut suit that is fitted to your body that can be worn buttoned up or undone. Now here’s the hard part picking a colour/a print to suit your personality/taste. My top in store options are• Colour I think the brighter the better. Go to Country Road/Sass and Bide• Plaid Curve Option - Check out Myer Tokito curve • If Darker colours are more your thing check out Kookai.
The power of the power suit is that you have 2 versatile pieces that can be worn separately. 1. Suit Pants +blouse 2. Suit Jacket, jeans, white tee OR printed tee Or if you’re feeling brave button your jacket up and pair with your finest lace bra.
The finishing touches are a pointed statement boot (think white boot with a coloured suit) or a pointed heel. Stay tuned later in week I’ll show you my take on this trend. **Photo Credit - whowhatwear
Now you can have 1 dress to create 2 different looks
My Christmas present to myself was Gorman Kindah Khalidy apron dress. I love all the bright colours and patterns and a Gorman dress had been on my shopping list for a while. While the price point is higher than something I normally buy I wanted to make it work for me and look different. I was feeling guilty after my spurge and I sent some change room pictures to my friend and fellow stylist Shanyn and she challenged to wear my Gorman different ways. After giving it some thought and trying a lot of clothes on, here’s what I’ve come up with1. Throw a tee on underneath the dress.2. With a little bit of tuck/roll/fold/wiggle now my dress is now a skirt (this dress does feature a drawstring waist, which helps me pull the dress in around my waist). Other ideas to change up my outfit- In the cooler months, if Brisbane ever gets the memo, throw a loose fitting jumper over the top preferably in one of the pop colours featured in the dress.- Change up accessories Hope this blog has inspired you to create other looks with your current wardrobe.
My trip packing advice..
I love travelling and I read a lot of blogs about holiday packing. I am not minimalist, in any shape or form and I still use a suitcase. My last couple of holidays I have been to hotter climates and this is obviously a lot easier to pack for than cooler climates. I’m not going to list what you should and shouldn’t pack because everyone is different. But rather, I am going to give you my hot tip … Here goes
- Prior to travelling I write a list of items that I’m thinking of taking on holidays. (For example yellow dress, striped shirt, black pants, etc).
- Writing a list in advance allows you to pack quicker and work out what will mix and match in your suitcase and create other outfit options.
- And then I cover, all the occasions that I know I am doing to do on holidays. I.e. making sure I have active wear packed for that hike/walk, or something dressy for those cocktails.
My heart beats for emerald green
If you are a regular follower of my Instagram, it's no secret I adore emerald green. I even have a emerald green section in my colour coded cupboard.
With right shade of green it just pops on clients with darker hair.
I would even go as far as saying it's my signature colour.
The stores are stocked to brim with all shades of green and many with a floral/and palm print too.
Perfect green pairings are • White • Denim• Black• Floral• Green • Blue (who says it shouldn't be seen)
These are green items I'm lusting over ( and I really need to start my Christmas shopping and stop shopping for me).
From left to right
- Country Road Wrap Top - $79.50
- Country Road Wrap Waist Jumpsuit - $114.50
- Gorman Spot On Dress - $239.20
- Gorman Top (no longer available but other styles are available) & Gorman June Bug Pants - $169.00
- French Connection - Leaf Printed Playsuit - $129.95
- Target - Preview Flounce Shift Dress - $39
Why not rock green confidently in style and stand out in a room full of black.
Take some time out, put self care back at your number 1 priority
I have found as our lives are getting busier and we become time poor we put off doing things and, we need to put our own self-care back at our number 1 priority.
It helps our mental health as much as physical health. It makes us better humans to our family, friends and work colleagues.
A couple of weeks ago I had some time off from my job and spend the day enjoying some pampering and I felt like I glided out of the shopping centre. Between the annual leave and the pampering I felt like a new person.
It’s ok to treat ourselves and it doesn’t always have to involve spending money (shock horror!)
Easy Self Care Idea at no cost• Seeing friends• Going for a walk/exercise• Long bath• Enjoying a movie• Reading a book
Self Care Ideas with cost• Getting a facial/hair/mani, pedi or massage ( IF I could afford to have all of these on the same day I would go for it).• Date Night• Going shopping• Seeing friends• Getting a stylist
There is obviously so many more ideas than those listed here, but you see my point.
I know it’s a line from a Disney movie but do whatever makes your heart sing!
Transform your Little Black Dress with some accessories
We all have a little black dress (LBD) hanging our cupboard. It’s our go to dress that can take us from desk to dinner/date.
Let’s transform your LBD with some accessories
- Throw on a jacket over the top (Seems simple and use your LBD as a layering piece)
- Drape a scarf over the top
- Jewellery (This changes the whole look and focal point. Colour looks fab on plain black.)
- Different Shoes
- Different Bag
Even wearing a different colour make up/lipstick can change the way the outfit looks.
Next time you’re wearing your LBD, why not switch up how you usually wear it.
Don't hold the mustard this Autumn
After some shopping research last weekend I saw a resurgence of mustard in stores. I have seen a lot of inspiration on Instagram and I knew I wanted to add a little bit of mustard to my autumn/winter wardrobe.
I found a longline cardi from Temt and living in Brisbane where we hardly get a winter it’s the right light weight knit choice for me. (I’m wearing the Paula Knit Cardigan, I’ve sized down for a fitted look.)
Here’s my top mustard picks(from left to right)
1. Feather and Noise Catlin Dress - $692. Feather and Noise Xander Jumper - $693. Taking Shape Dynasty Tank - $69.954. Review Colette Mini Skirt - $169.955. Cotton On Archy Jumper - $39.956. Sportsgirl Mesh Dress - $79.95
The obvious mustard pairings are denim, black and white. But why not bring out your bold side and pair with red, cobalt blue or rust. You can even rock a touch of mustard with stripes, spots and prints etc.

Skin and Beauty Empties
A lot of beauty bloggers do blogs on their empties, (I find its a good way to read a product review before buying the product). If you take a look at my bathroom, you will see that these products cover my bathroom sink.
I’m featuring items from my everyday routine that I use regularly and keep going back and buying. (They have the Bec seal of approval :) All items are affordable and couple of them can be brought at a chemist.
Bath and Body Works – Bath and Shower GelOne of my favourite new stores, so many lovely scents. I’ve used these minis and you get quite a lot of showers out of them. You skin will feel fab and you and your bathroom will smell divine!!! Who can resist names such as Paris Armour and Hello Beautiful?
Sephora 10hr Wear Perfection Foundation - $29.00It wouldn’t be beauty blog without me featuring Sephora. The perfect starting base, you can build your level of coverage and Sephora have a large range of colours.
3B Action Cream - $12.50Let’s be real, in summer skin rubs and I want to wear a skirt/dress and this stuff saves my thighs and legs from chaffing and it’s a god send!
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra - $30.00I have red blotchy, sensitive skin and buying skincare is hit and miss for me. After buying several different brands and this is my favourite moisturiser and I use the whole range and my skin feels great. The moisturiser calms my skin and leaves my skin smooth. Available at most chemists.
Curve Corporate Work Wear
With my profession, I get asked a lot of style questions and a question from one of my friends inspired today’s blog.
I'm size 18 and looking for corporate office wear. I want to look modern and office appropriate.
On Friday night while I was researching another styling project and with my friends request in mind, I stopped by Myer curve section.
Honesty I was so inspired I sent a text to my friend telling her about the looks I've created and we should arrange a styling appointment.
I noticed a lot of the styles we are seeing in the straight size are replicated across into the curve section.
I've created this work week wardrobe for a curvy office girl who doesn't have to wear a suit all the time.
I've incorporated check pattern into my look as it's must for winter. And who doesn't love a polka dots or a floral. I realise prints aren’t for everyone but it’s nice to stand out every now and again and you can swap floral shift for a plain black shift.
You may notice my photo only has 4 days I was having some technical issues and I’ll share Thursday’s look on Thursday on my Facebook page.
And remember just because your curvy doesn’t mean you don’t deserve cute clothes too!!

My Mecca Makeover Review
I was extremely impressed by the makeover experience. My makeup didn’t move after a hot humid February day.
I’m a girl who loves her makeup – so it shouldn’t be a surprise when asked what I wanted for my birthday was to get my makeup professionally applied by Mecca. (In a way I did feel like I was cheating on Sephora, but whether it be styling/fashion or make up it’s good to open your horizons.)
It costs $120 and the booking fee is redeemable on product at the time of your appointment. It’s a win/win situation, so why not?
It took approx. an hour and I was extremely impressed by the makeover experience.
The staying power of the makeup was great, my appointment was at -11am and I went to bed at midnight and the makeup didn’t move. For me it was a fun birthday treat and I picked up some valuable tips/advice from the Mecca consultant and it a good opportunity to try different brands.

Don’t be afraid to wear white
I’m a curvy girl and I’ve always avoided wearing a white shirt fearing it would make me look bigger and now I own 5 different types of white shirts.
Ask any stylist or read any article a white shirt is always included in their capsule wardrobe. The key to a white shirt is finding a flattering one.
I’m accident prone so this makes wearing white tricky for me so I will have the napisan and the tea towel bib on standby in case, I drop something on me.
My top 3 favourite white shirts you should buy and wear now
Linen ShirtThis shirt was thrifted to me and it is a little large but I like the loose and airy look and not to mention there isn’t any button popping accidents. If this is the look you’re after, I would size up.White and blue denim are match made in heaven and throw on a pair of white sneakers to complete the look.
And as a bonus, a white linen shirt is suitable for both casual and workwear.
For similar one try Uniqlo & Target.
White V Singlet Another one of my favourites, getting alot wear at the moment is my white dressed up V singlet. It's not at all clingy and double layered so it not see through. I wear this singlet with a pleated skirt and printed pants and can also be used for layering. Sizing wise I’ve sized up and I’m in a 16.
For similar one try Sportsgirl.
White TeeThe classic white tee, there’s always space in my wardrobe for a white tee. Endless mix and match opportunities and I pair a white tee with a bright skirt or shorts.
For a similar one try Kmart.
